Hi! I’m Justin, the founder of Joynd Co., A bespoke furniture manufacturing company.
I am passionate about designing and making furniture in our fully equipped workshop near Wells, Somerset. Having grown up in the Cotswolds, where historically beautiful buildings surrounded me in every village and town, I soon began to notice timber-framed roofs and beautiful oak church pews, and it was here that my casual interest in history, design, and those who had come before me developed. I was, and still am, fascinated by the skills of carpenters, joiners, and cabinetmakers who managed to complete such complex tasks with so little of the equipment we use today. It was these makers of the past who inspired me to begin my journey into the world of wood!
After completing my apprenticeship, I felt like I needed to see more of the world, so I decided to join the army! This decision turned out to be one of the best I have ever made. There were some truly amazing times, utterly horrendous times and everything in between. I served for five years with the Rifles regiment and deployed to Afghanistan. In 2011, during an operation to halt a taliban ambush, I unfortunately stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device, which resulted in the loss of both of my legs. Since then, I have climbed some of the world’s highest mountains, hand-cycled from Paris to London, competed at a world level in hand-cycling, taught resilience in schools, and taken a position as a charity trustee for Head Up, a military mental health charity. However, I have always maintained my interest in all disciplines of woodwork, and it is the lessons that I have learnt along this journey that I bring to Joynd Co.
We are a small, experienced team with a hunger to provide a top-class service to our valued clients. We now transfer the values learnt from our previous military experience to Joynd Co and take on each new commission with pride, integrity and honesty.
